CASUAL ADVENTURE

As we continue exploring how God invites us to live a life of adventure and risk, we want to draw from the wisdom of Bart Hansen - an amazing man of God and a mentor, who describes adventure in three different categories: Casual Adventure, Crucial Adventure and Epic Adventure.

This week we’re diving deeper into Casual Adventure. We’re sharing the first part of a conversation we had with some of the members of my FIRETEAM - the group of like-hearted warriors who have chosen to do life with me, as we fight for each other’s hearts and each other’s families. Together we’re exploring the Casual Adventures that God is inviting us into in this season.

KEY THOUGHTS

  • Adventure is written deep in our hearts. It is a core desire of the masculine heart (and of the feminine heart too).

  • Casual Adventure can be any activity that makes our hearts come alive - that brings joy to our hearts.

  • Another man’s Casual Adventure should never minimize or diminish our own. The type of Casual Adventure we pursue does not elevate us above anyone else either.

  • God uses Casual Adventure to make our hearts come alive. Casual Adventure helps us train to live by faith, as we step outside of the areas we believe we control and into territories where we need God to come through for us.

  • In union with God, we should pursue Casual Adventures that may have been lost or stolen in our stories, or try new ones that God may be inviting us into in this season.

  • The pursuit of Casual Adventure with other men fosters the creation of close friendships - it begins to set the context for deep friendships in the context of a shared mission.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

We encourage you to pause and take the time to reflect on each one of these questions individually and with your FIRETEAM.

  1. What Casual Adventures have made your heart come alive in your story?

  2. Is there a Casual Adventure that may have been stolen or lost in the past and that God may be inviting you to recover in this season?

  3. Is there a new Casual Adventure that God may be inviting you to pursue, simply for the sake of joy?

  4. What type of Casual Adventure could you pursue with other men - with your FIRETEAM in this season?

PRAYER

Jesus, I want to believe that you are in this - that it is your heart’s desire to see my heart come alive. I pray that you would show me how I can begin to recover my joy as I pursue Casual Adventure. Would you make a way where there’s no way, would you lead me to create the time to pursue Casual Adventure as a means to care for my soul - alone and with other men.
I choose to let go of performance… I choose to pursue adventure for the sake of union with you and for the sake of joy.
