Believe or follow?

While reading the Gospels I am amazed by the simplicity of Jesus invitation: "Follow me".  He didn't just say "believe me", or "believe in me".  Although that's important, obviously, it won't be enough if we really want the abundant life that He wants to offers us.

To "Follow Him" implies forward movement.  It implies constantly looking ahead to see where He is, what He is saying, what He is doing and how He is doing it.  It implies taking action according to His guidance.  It also implies leaving behind any other ways in which we may be trying to make life work outside of Him.  Even if we "don't feel like it".  Even if it goes against our common sense.  No matter the cost.

"At once they left their nets and followed him." (Matt 4:20).
"...and Levi got up, left everything and followed him." (Luke 5:28).

"Follow me".  Simple... but not easy.  If Jesus were there by your side, extending that simple invitation to follow Him to you today (He actually is), what is that thing (or things) that you feel you would not be able to give up immediately to follow Him?  Why?

"Jesus I want to believe that the abundant life you promised can only be found in you.  Forgive me for my unbelief.  Forgive me for going to all these other places and people and things to try to make life work outside of you.  Heal my unbelief.  I say "Yes", Jesus, I want to follow you.  I want to move from believing in you, to wholeheartedly following you.  Would you lead me?"
