“God, why didn’t you answer my prayer? Why didn’t you bless the project I started? The initiative I chose to be a part of? Why didn’t you bless the decision that I made?”
How many times do we find ourselves asking those questions, and then doubting God’s ability or His willingness to intervene in the daily circumstances of our lives? How many times do we walk away disappointed, with that core belief that “I’m really own my own”, that “God seems to be holding out on me.”?
When the disciples asked Jesus to teach them how to pray, Jesus said: “Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven” (Matthew 6:10). His will be done. The will of God.
Yikes… Did I actually asked God if it was His will for me to get that project started, to be part of that initiative, to make that decision?. The answer, very often, is no, I didn’t ask Him. Sometimes I do ask, but honestly, I don’t wait for His answer. I don’t want to hear His answer. I don’t want Him to say that His will is not for me to make that decision, or buy that thing, or to start that project.
What I really want is for my will to be done. I want Him to bless my choices, I want Him to come out of that shiny lamp right when I rub it, and make my wish come true. Sadly, too often I believe that my will for my life is better than God’s. But sometimes, when I do pause and listen, right there in the middle of my mistrust, I can hear His gentle voice speaking: “Son, can you trust that my will for you is good? That in fact, there’s nothing better for you than for my will to be done in your life?”
What do you really want?
What would it look like for you to surrender your will to His and fully trust Him?
Could you ask Him to reveal His will for you, and be willing to listen to his answer and follow Him?
